No.  is Covid a pruning of the elderly? ‘Fertility rate: ‘Jaw-dropping’ global crash in children being born By James Gallagher – Health and science correspondent – 15 July 2020 – Falling fertility rates mean nearly every country could have shrinking populations by the end of the century. And 23 nations – including Spain and Japan – are expected to see their populations halve by 2100. Countries will also age dramatically, with as many people turning 80 as there are being born. The fertility rate – the average number of children a woman gives birth to – is falling. If the number falls below approximately 2.1, then the size of the population starts to fall. In 1950, women were having an average of 4.7 children in their lifetime. Researchers at the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation showed the global fertility rate nearly halved to 2.4 in 2017 – and their study, published in the Lancet, projects it will fall below 1.7 by 2100. – As a result, the researchers expect the number of people on the planet to peak at 9.7 billion around 2064, before falling down to 8.8 billion by the end of the century.

US Navy seize petroleum from an Iranian ship in the Gulf of Ammam – IRGC releases footage of confronting US piracy targeting Iranian oil in Sea of Oman Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) releases detailed footage of its confrontation late last month against an American act of piracy targeting an Iranian fuel shipment. The incident took place on October 25, but news and footage of which were released on Wednesday. During the episode, American forces confiscated the tanker that was carrying a cargo of Iranian oil in the strategic Sea of Oman, transferring its consignment of crude to another vessel. The IRGC then staged a maritime operation against the second vessel, landing its helicopters on its deck and navigating the ship towards Iranian waters. The footage depicts the incident in great detail, first showing the IRGC Navy’s intelligence command and intelligence gathering network detecting the vessel laden with the stolen crude.

US Navy Fires Commander of Submarine That Foundered in the South China Sea – China has called out the US for not being transparent about the incident – The captain and two other leaders of the USS Connecticut were fired over the nuclear submarine’s October 2nd accident in the South China Sea. The US Navy’s Seventh Fleet said in a statement that the commanders were relieved “due to loss of confidence.” Seventh Fleet Commander Vice Adm. Karl Thomas determined “sound judgment, prudent decision-making and adherence to required procedures in navigation planning, watch team execution and risk management could have prevented the incident.” Earlier this week, the Navy said that it determined the Connecticut collided with an underwater mountain but offered no other detail about the incident. China responded by saying the US lacked “transparency and responsibility” over the incident.

Trump Russia steel dossier Analyst charged with lying to FBI about Christopher Steele’s Trump-Russia dossier – An analyst who contributed research to a dossier that detailed alleged ties between former President Donald Trump and Russia during the 2016 election was arrested. Igor Danchenko, the analyst, was charged in a grand jury indictment with five counts of making false statements to the FBI about the so-called Steele dossier during interviews with agents in 2017. The arrest was part of an ongoing probe by special counsel John Durham, who was appointed during the Trump administration to investigate the roots of the Trump-Russia investigation. Analyst for Steele Dossier arrested in Durham probe – A Russia analyst who contributed key research to the so-called Steele dossier that detailed alleged ties between ex-President Donald Trump and Russia during the 2016 election was arrested Thursday as part of a probe by special counsel John Durham. Igor Danchenko, the analyst, was charged in a grand jury indictment with five counts of making false statements to FBI agents during several interviews with agents in 2017 about his work providing information to former British spy Christopher Steele for the dossier. Steele’s controversial dossier on Trump became the basis for the application of an FBI warrant to tap the phone of former Trump campaign advisor Carter Page a month before Election Day in 2016 Steele’s inquiry was funded by the firm Fusion GPS, which itself had been hired by the Democratic National Committee to conduct opposition research on the then-Republican candidate Trump. Danchenko, 43, is the third person criminally charged in Durham’s investigation, which is focused on the origins of the federal probe into the Trump campaign’s suspected coordination with Russian agents to influence the outcome of the 2016 race for the White House. The Department of Justice said that Danchenko, a Russian national who lives in Virginia, was taken into custody Thursday morning. He later appeared in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, where he reportedly was released on a $100,000 bond.
