What I have concluded after researching how change for humanity comes about , protests alone do not work . Protests must include a general strike to obtain a better life for the vast majority , we the everyday people and that includes from janitors , store clerks to scientists , engineers, nurses and doctors who don’t care for the continuous accumulation of personal wealth .
I don’t believe most of us want revolutions , because the vast majority of revolutions are deadly, bloody and destructive . However if you look at the history of revolutions beginning in the late 18th century lets say starting with French Revolution of 1789 ( for 2 or 3 years it did result in reforms which somewhat lifted lets call it the 99% . It became bloody in 1793 due to internal reactionary forces outside of Paris and threats and actions from the Kingdoms surrounding France ) , the continental Europe revolutions of the 1820s , 1830s , 1840s , The 1870 Paris Commune and even the Soviet revolution of 1917 during the Lenin era and post Stalin ussr , all failed but brought about incremental reforms which benefited the 99% .
The Sandinista late 20th century revolution in Nicaragua was successful to a lesser or greater degree . The convoluted , pernicious , circuitous US illegal drug money Contra death squads on Sandinista civilians was horrible . But the Sandinistas are still in control despite the US sanctions and black ops of recent times .
While the sonny Bush regime had the US efforts switched to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq , South America had the freedom to elect democratic socialist governments evolve in Venezuela , Bolivia , Brazil , Argentina , Ecuador, and Chile . Now the US and its allies are playing a devilish game with sanctions there which has almost shifted entirely these countries back to the reactionary conservatives . When will reactionism ever stop ?
