First hour: news review: Bristol Arena: In full: George Ferguson’s damning Bristol Arena letter – He doesn’t mince his words – In my interpretation of the Local Government Code of Conduct, this sorry sequence of events disqualifies the Mayor from being involved with the arena decision, both legally and morally. However it is clear that Mayor Marvin Rees has made up his mind and that his apparatchiks are now doing all they can to lobby and justify a decision that may favour the few, but is certainly against the will of the many. – Robbie Gillett @RobbieGillett Adblock Bristol co-founder, cycling enthusiast, climate justice organiser in the anti-fracking movement – Public objections to new digital advertising plans in Bristol are showing the council that people don’t want these intrusive, unwelcome screens in the city’s public spaces. But campaigners say that despite the decisive show of public opinion and a lack of understanding about the harmful impacts of this technology, we may still see new digital advertising screens in our city soon. The council received almost sixty objections against plans for a huge digital advertising screen on Stapleton Road in Easton. A new digital screen proposed opposite Temple Meads station has also proved a very unpopular idea with the public, and has been rejected by the council as it would be a distraction and safety risk at this busy junction, and it would dominate the view and detract from nearby listed buildings. Bristol mayor Marvin Rees’ annual council address in fullBristol audit failings: BDO has revealed there are ten areas which still need to be completed in the report and these include “clarifications in respect of the exit package” of former chief executive Anna Klonowski. Ms Klonowski left her £160,000 role last September after just seven months to look after her sick parents. She was allegedly given a payment of £70,000 in lieu of serving her notice. Bristol Mayor, Marvin Rees, has constantly denied any wrongdoing and says the council was acting as a “caring employer” by allowing her to leave early. However, the controversial payment has dogged his term with opposition parties questioning if the payment was legally necessary or value for money. BDO carried out an earlier report which found Mr Rees had ignored financial good practice guidelines over the payment to Ms Klonowski. While the auditors found the Bristol Mayor had not acted illegally, it said the payment and sum should have been presented to the HR committee – a recommendation made as a result of the Bundred Review. It comes after former City Director – the equivalent of the chief executive role – Nicola Yates was given an alleged £200,000 pay off at the start of Mr Rees’ term in 2016. BDO said it is currently looking in to a “legal interpretation matter” associated with Ms Klonowski’s payment in lieu of notice agreement. The audit committee were also frustrated at delays with the completion of the heritage assets section of the audit. In the 2016/17 report the council’s heritage assets were valued at £100million, but this jumped to £201million in the 2017/18 balance sheet. Somerset audit failings: STAFF at Somerset County Council have been asked to take two days’ unpaid leave so the cash-strapped authority can save money The council is looking for new ways to generate savings after an official audit of its accounts warned it was in danger of “running out of money in two or three years” if no action was taken. As part of the effort to tackle what an auditor called “pervasive” over-spending, the council has proposed that staff take two days of compulsory unpaid leave over the Christmas break in both 2018 and 2019. The council believes that this proposal – which will go out to a trade union ballot in September – could save £1m over a two-year period. The proposal was detailed in a monthly briefing note which was circulated to all council staff. It outlines “a temporary change to terms and conditions for this year and the next.” The briefing says: “The proposal is that staff take two days’ unpaid leave during the Christmas week (Thursday, December 27 and Friday, December 28), with a third day (Monday, December 24) taken as annual leave, flexitime or working from home. Council eyeing more multi-million-pound investments as it confirms shopping centre deal. North Somerset Council has confirmed it has taken control over a shopping centre in Weston – but it is also looking for potential multi-million-pound investments elsewhere in the district. Tories launch probe into Boris Johnson over burka comments – According to the Evening Standard, the ex-Cabinet Minister’s comments will be looked at by an investigatory panel headed by a lawyer, with the mov. e set to be announced this afternoon. Mr Johnson has been under fire over a Telegraph article in which he said women who wear burqas looked like “post boxes” and “bank robbers.” – Israel running campaign against Jeremy Corbyn: An app operated as part of an Israeli government propaganda campaign issued a “mission” for social media users to make comments against Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, accusing him of anti-Semitism. This is the latest evidence of an Israeli campaign of psychological warfare against the UK’s main opposition party. The Act.IL app on Sunday falsely accused Corbyn of comparing Israel to Nazi Germany in a 2010 meeting which had been resurfaced by The Times last week. – Torrents of Online Tory Hate, Venom, Homophobia, Misogyny, Sexism, Xenophobia, Racism, Islamophobia and more… Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg, who has yet to apologise for or distance himself from the vile abuse dished out online by his supporters. See our recent post featuring Matt Thomas’ stirling work listing Tory Criminals. And now, here is some equally disturbing content, expertly gathered by Chelley Ryan – Chelleryn99 on Twitter. It’s a relentless stream of venom, targeting prominent Labour politicians and some of their backers, much of it originating from supporters of aspiring Leader of Her Majesty’s Oppositon (one day), Jacob Rees-Mogg.  On this evidence, the Rees-Mogg stable appears to be a very dirty backwater and a hotbed of unaddressed cultural backwardness. Some of this hatred is directed at immigrants and refugees, or anyone they seem to regard as worthy of their attention and in the firing line for their bile – One of the UK’s biggest department stores collapsed — but was almost immediately rescued by a billionaire sports tycoon. The 169-year-old UK department store House of Fraser fell into administration on Friday after failing to secure a rescue deal. Sports Direct, the sports retailer run by billionaire Mike Ashley, bought the chain almost immediately for a reported £90 million. Accountants EY had been appointed to find a buyer for a House of Fraser, which employs 17,500 people across the UK. UK must adopt Norway-style trade deal or face a CALAMITOUS Brexit, Yanis Varoufakis warns: BRITAIN has been urged to secure an interim Norway-style trade deal with the European Union in a bid to ward off a ‘hard Brexit.’  EU blinked first! European leaders plan Brexit COMPROMISE deal – but will UK accept? – EUROPEAN leaders are considering offering the UK a Brexit deal which would end free movement and give Britain access to the single market for goods, but it may not be acceptable to Brexiteers. – Will the City of London become like a wasteland? Mark Carney ‘in EU interest to do a deal’ but no deal Brexit looming: Mark Carney: Chances of no-deal Brexit ‘uncomfortably high’. The pound dropped in the wake of the BoE chief’s comments. The possibility that Britain could leave the European Union without a deal in March 2019 is “uncomfortably high,” according to Bank of England chief Mark Carney, who stressed the financial system was “ready” to withstand the potential shock. “We have put the banks through the wringer well in advance,” Carney told the BBC’s Today program on Friday, referring to stress tests that he said would ensure the banks “are there to lend to the economy” and “advance instead of retreat.” National Crime Agency (NCA) prosecute low-hanging fruit traveller smugglers but leave international Mafia alone. People-smuggling gang who plotted to transport Albanian migrants across English Channel using jetskis facing jail. ‘Incompetent’ group charged £6,000 for route to Britain but lack of sailing experience led to repeated failures

Second hour: Investigative reports: An explosive diplomatic spat this week shows how fragile the Saudi Arabian crown prince’s narrative may be. On Monday, Riyadh announced it would suspend trade with Canada and ordered the expulsion of the Canadian ambassador. It also withdrew its own envoy in Ottawa. The reason for the dramatic move? Last week, Canada complained about the arrests of a number of Saudi civil-society figures, including Samar Badawi, the sister of jailed blogger Raif Badawi. (His wife and three children now live in Quebec and became Canadian citizens last year.) Tweets from Canada’s foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, and the Foreign Ministry itself championed human rights and the rights of female activists recently rounded up. – Britain is up to its neck in Yemen: it is the major supplier of the bombs dropped on Yemen, and of the jets used to drop them; it provides diplomatic cover to the Saudis (such as repeatedly blocking an independent investigation into Saudi war crimes); it supports the starvation blockade of the country; it provides training and logistical assistance to the Saudi armed forces; and it has 125 soldiers stationed in Saudi Arabia, including six officers based in the Saudi command and control HQ “assisting with target selection”. Indeed, Britain may well have officers embedded in the Saudi army itself, given 2015’s “take out the trash day” admission that Britain has 177 military personnel embedded within the armed forces of several other, undisclosed, countries. Yet ministers continue to mislead parliament in claiming Britain is “not a party” to the war in Yemen. As Mark Curtis, a historian and analyst of UK foreign policy and international development, has noted. – Saudi Arabia-Canada spat: Here’s everything to know about the feud – Saudi Arabia crucified a man in Mecca while aggressively calling out Canada over human rights – Red Cross condemns ‘reprehensible’ Yemen attacks that killed 55 civilians – Yemeni government forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition have been conducting an offensive to capture Hodeida from the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.  – Yemen: Dozens of civilians killed in school bus attack Red Cross says many children under 15 dead and wounded after air raid blamed on Saudi-UAE coalition hits bus in Saada. AP Investigation: US allies, al-Qaida battle rebels in Yemen – US Recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital: A Travesty of History: Donald Trump was elected on the wave of a populist backlash. Like his predecessor, Barack Obama, he promised to roll back the USA’s global intervention, which does, after all, have more in common with Wilsonian Democratic internationalism than traditional Republican—Robert Taft—“America First” non-intervention. Indeed, Trump’s slogan of “America First” got the oligarchic and liberal cabals very nervous, recalling the non-interventionist movement in the USA prior to the Pearl Harbor. Like Obama’s promises, Trump’s were short-lived. Trump’s supposedly “America First” victory was quickly discarded, as the USA retained its position as the standard-bearer of a messianic mission to impose a global “American millennia,” and overtly “American millennialists” replaced the first rung of Trump appointees in quick succession. With Jared Kushner, an arch-Zionist, not only as the President’s son-in-law but as a nepotistic-type key adviser, “America First” was not going to be an easy choice, especially when Zionists and pro-Zionist so-called “neocons” have bamboozled many into thinking that the destinies of the USA and Israel are synonymous, and the two are joined at the hip. Hence, the Israel First lobbies attained a long-held and primary Zionist dream, to have the USA recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The reaction from Palestinians was of course, predictable, and this is not intended as a critical implication. Why should they, and indeed all Muslims, not be outraged? What should also be asked is: why are Christians also not outraged? The latter can be answered by the generations-old undermining of traditional Christian theology in the conjoining of two normally antithetical words “Judaeo” and “Christian.” – ‘Largest military entity yet’ against elected Assad government in Syria has just been formed by West, as ‘moderates’ merge with ‘extremist’ rebels – The devastating effects of crystal meth: Methamphetamine has been used worldwide for decades, devastating the communities where it is found. – Among these militant groups was a body called the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, known for its links to Al Qaeda. Indeed, in 1996 Britain had secretly supported the LIFG in a bid to assassinate Gaddafi. So the impression is that groups connected to Al Qaeda were effectively Britain’s ‘boots on the ground’ in the war against Gaddafi. Crucially, Ramadan Abedi, father of the Manchester bomber, was a member of this same Libyan international fighting group. Salman Abedi may have fought with them, too. Many people will find it frankly incredible that Britain was linked to fighters who had vowed to wage war and destruction against the West. Yet this is something that has happened in a number of foreign conflicts. – Why has the Turkish lira slumped to a record low? What’s driving it down? And what does it mean for Turkey and others? – Why is President Trump impassioned about the case of an American Christian pastor being held “hostage” in Turkey? Plus, a dire warning from an award-winning novelist who fears Turkey is sliding into fascism.  All this, and much more, from CBN News correspondents Jennifer Wishon, Gary Lane, Ben Kennedy, John Waage and George Thomas as they discuss the plight of Pastor Andrew Brunson and future of US-Turkey relations. Turkey’s president claims the CIA and Mossad, Israel’s national intelligence agency, are planning a rescue mission of American pastor Andrew Brunson. Turkey’s president Recep Erdogan reportedly told A-Haber TV, a channel owned by Erdogan’s son-in-law, that members of the CIA and Mossad are staying in houses and apartments near Mr. Brunson’s home. – Caracas requests arrest of politician accused of involvement in apparent attack against President Nicolas Maduro. Venezuela has requested Interpol to arrest an opposition politician who is currently in neighbouring Colombia and accused of involvement in an apparent attack against President Nicolas Maduro. “We are seeking code red for Mr Julio Borges,” Communications Minister Jorge Rodriguez said on Friday, referring to the former speaker of the National Assembly. The request for an Interpol red notice – calling for police in another country to locate and provisionally arrest a suspect wanted in another – follows what Venezuelan officials said was a drone assassination attempt on Maduro. A drone loaded with explosives on Saturday detonated near a military event where Maduro was giving a speech. The president escaped unharmed but seven people were wounded. – Ehud Barak slams justice minister Ayelet Shaked as ‘proto-fascist’ for threat to Supreme Court: Former prime minister insists justices must overrule nation-state law, says Netanyahu has ‘no morals’ and has ‘skewed Zionism’ Former prime minister Ehud Barak on Wednesday slammed Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, saying her “threats” against Israel’s top court were like those of a “proto-fascist” state. Barak, in an interview with Army Radio, criticized Shaked for warning Sunday of an “earthquake” if the High Court of Justice were to overturn the controversial nation-state law, which is accused by some critics of discriminating against Israel’s non-Jewish minorities. “Threats like that are only heard in proto-fascist regimes,” Barak said. – Shaked to Corbyn: Labour needs zero tolerance on anti-Semitism. In comments by most senior Israeli official so far, justice minister urges UK opposition chief to expel those making anti-Jewish remarks. – A Nazi Travels to Palestine: Baron von Mildenstein and the S.S. support of Zionism in Germany from 1934-1936. Jacob Boas | Published in History Today Volume 30 Issue 1 January 1980 – In the spring of 1933 four people gathered on a platform of Berlin’s railway station ready to board a train for Trieste, where they were to take a ship bounds for Palestine. What made this group unusual was the fact that it was composed of two couples, one Jewish, the other Nazi, only two months after Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor of the German Reich and his first legislation against non-Aryans. Yet the two couples were travelling with the sanction of both the Nazi (National Socialist German Workers) Party and the Zionist Federation of Germany. They were engaged in a mission whose invisible fellow-traveller ws the fate of German Jewry. – Hebron shooting: Footage shows ‘settler kicking knife towards Palestinian man’s body’ after soldier killed him The footage was shown in the trial of Elor Azaria, who shot Abdel Fattah al-Sharif dead following an attack – Israel supplies rifles to Azov batallion: Rights Groups Demand Israel Stop Arming neo-Nazis in Ukraine. Human rights activists petition the court to cease Israeli arms exports to Ukraine since some of these weapons reach neo-Nazi elements in Ukraine’s security forces – Documentary about Israel’s Secret Weapon: If Americans Knew: Israel’s Internet Censorship War – An exposé on Israel’s detailed projects – some public, some covert – to influence what people see on the Internet, and what they don’t. From the article, “How Israel and its partisans work to censor the Internet” http://iakn.us/2Ixc6LC – Twitter, important: A recent update to the Facebook Platform Policies ended the ability to automatically post Tweets to your Facebook profile or page, but so called fix doesn’t do anything! – Facebook locks out cross-posting from Twitter: The integration between Twitter and Facebook that could allow automatic posting of tweets and retweets to Facebook ended on August 1, 2018. Twitter announced the changes to the cross-posting capabilities urging users to learn new ways of sharing their tweets to Facebook after the lockdown. The changes were attributed to a recent change in the Facebook policies. ‘We’ve learned that Tweets and Retweets will no longer automatically post to connected Facebook accounts due to a recent Facebook update.  ‘A recent update to the Facebook Platform Policies ended the ability to automatically post Tweets to your Facebook profile or page, so your Tweets will no longer show up there,’ Twitter announced early in August. After shutting down the functionality, Twitter users will instead have to copy the link to the tweet they desire to share on Facebook and then move to paste and share manually on the social platform. Initially, you could connect your Twitter and Facebook accounts so that all your Tweets and Retweets are automatically posted to your Facebook wall. This is the feature that will no longer work given previously posts from sister platforms, Facebook and Instagram, appeared as links on Twitter. It was also possible to make automatic updates on a Facebook page you manage straight from your Twitter handle but this has since been halted in the new policy updates made by Facebook.  –  Facebook, Apple, Spotify and YouTube have removed content from radio talk show host Alex Jones, who has called the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary shooting a hoax. Google’s YouTube removed Jones’ InfoWars channel Monday after taking other action in previous months. The move followed similar decisions by Apple and Spotify, which removed Jones’ podcasts shortly before Facebook removed Jones’ fan page and the one for his radio show InfoWars on Monday. “When users violate these policies repeatedly, like our policies against hate speech and harassment or our terms prohibiting circumvention of our enforcement measures, we terminate their accounts,” a YouTube representative told The Hill. YouTube previously banned livestream videos from Jones for three months that contained hate speech against Muslims and transgender people and another video that included an instance of child endangerment late last month. He was also flagged for a violation earlier this year for posting a video in which he claimed Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg was a “crisis actor.” – The Purge: Paul Joseph Watson – Alex Jones Exposed: website www.alexjonesexposed.info has disappeared – here’s a copy of what was on there about links to the CIA and the Israeli state – CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY (C.I.A.) OPERATIVES IN ALEX JONES’ FAMILY: etc etc – Former Alex Jones employees and guests speak out about the big problems going on at Infowars. Featuring: Rob Jacobson, Kurt Nimmo, Anthony Gucciardi, Aaron and Melissa Dykes, Luke Rudkowski, Jason Bermas, David Icke, Wayne Madsen and Jack Blood – Matthew Williams’ YouTube channel: The Secret Vault. Matthew Williams exposes some of the UK’s military secrets around RAF Rudloe Manor which is an enormous secret communications hub in Wiltshire dominated by the United States: Rudloe Manor and Corsham sites involvement in UFO investigations discussed here in 2003.
